Therapy Services
The decision to come to therapy is often a difficult one for many people. It frequently comes after they have expended a great deal of time, energy, and resources into other solutions. The services I provide focus on your strengths, a complete understanding of your perspective, and honoring the courage it took you to decide to ask for assistance.
Types of Clients Seen
I enjoy seeing a wide variety of clients and working with many clinical situations. I primarily work with children, couples, families, and individuals. My work with children freuqently involves kids who have been sexually abused, those going through divorce, those who have witnessed or experience domestic violence, and children with anxiety disorders. With couples, I typically work with couples who have sexual concerns (desire problems, intimacy issues) and those dealing with infidelity. My work with families tends to be about teaching co-parenting skills, helping parents effectively manage adolescents, and other concerns. I also see individuals struggling with past sexual abuse, depression, and/or anxiety. I do not participate in court-related activities.
My Qualifications
After earning my Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech, I became a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). I am currently a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Nevada. I am a certified PREPARE/ENRICH premarital counselor and the President of the Nevada Association for Play Therapy. In addition to my work as a faculty member in the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy at the University on Nevada, Las Vegas, I also serve as a reviewer for several journals, as a co-editor for two books on therapy interventions for couples and families, and as a co-editor on a book for the clinical treatment of infidelity. I also supervise the clinical work of therapists-in-training at UNLV.
The Therapeutic Process
I believe therapy is a process devoted to growth and change. Generally, I tend to view people difficulties from a systemic framework. I like to involve the whole family; I firmly believe treatment is more effective with complete participation. I conduct therapy in a manner that enables clients to understand present patterns, identify and remove constraints, and to achieve better functioning and enhanced growth. The first few sessions will be spent getting to know you, listening, and assessing the problem and the context in which the problem is embedded. I then collaborate with you to develop goals and objectives. Therapy will come to a close by mutual agreement between you and I regarding when the goals are reached.
Costs
The cost for treatment is $125 per clinical hour. I do not accept insurance. A typical session lasts 50 minutes. Payment of any session fees must be received at the time of service. More information about my payment policies can be downloaded here.
Office Location
My office is located at 3440 E. Russell Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89120 (click to display map). It is on the northeast corner of the intersection, in the Airport Executive suites. I generally see clients on Monday evenings.
