Biography and Expertise
Welcome to my page! I am currently a professor in the Couple and Family Therapy Program in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health in the School of Medicine. My scholarship addresses sexuality and sexual health in couples, couple therapy, and the effect of technology on couples and families. My research interests also include infidelity, high-risk sexual behavior, child and adolescent therapy, and cyber issues in couple and family therapy. More recently my work has focused on how technology and new media exacerbate intimate partner violence. My research helps people understand the ways in which technology can both complicate and better support relationships. My publications (12 books, over 100 articles and book chapters), and teaching have been recognized by multiple awards at UNLV and beyond, including being awarded an esteemed Fulbright Scholarship. I serve as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Couple and Relationship Therapy. You can click here to Read more about my academic life.
My Spiritual and Intuitive Healing Path
- My spiritual and healing path, however, has been more of an interesting journey. I believe it is important to incorporate intuition in a therapeutic practice. We need to listen to our bodies as therapists and use the information being given to us in the room to assist in our clients’ healing. Here are some of my favorite resources which connect therapy and intuition.
- Second Sight by Dr. Judith Orloff
- Emotional Freedom by Dr. Judith Orloff
- Intuition and Psychotherapy by Drs. Marilyn Stickle and Margaret Arnd-Caddigan
